Trauma taught me
how to be fluent
in betrayal
manipulation
bloodbaths
but when
you spoke for the first time
it sounded foreign to me
a language too pure
and too surreal of a cure
for the battered mind to wrap its head around
yet the heart could translate at the very first sound
